Celebrating Ten Years of DoomRater

Sun Aug 30, 2009, 10:19 AM
It's kinda amazing that I've used this internet handle for ten years straight now. I look back at the craziness from only 4-5 years ago and it seems I was a completely different person mentally then. Quite neat to see a history of how I've changed, since my own memory is so faulty.

Well, this needs a celebration. Ten years on the Internet is a long time, making me feel kinda old now. Not that I have any plans to retire this name and make a new handle, oh no. I couldn't stand the stress of making myself disappear now, or sucumming to the philosophy of Anonymous. I WANT accountability, I WANT history, and I WANT visibility. This I feel helps keep me honest.

So, with me finally getting some reliable Internet access back at home on the third of September, I'll need to do something fun. I'm just not sure what yet, but it needs to be Internet related. Something that brings out everything I like about the Internet, but isn't something that I can just do all the time on the Internet. And most importantly I need to be able to do this with friends.

Hmm, what would fit that slot?

I believe you are the most knowledgeable person I know in this field, so here goes:

I am trying to convert an old VG soundtrack to a listenable format, but the problem is that they are all in Impulse Tracker format(.IT). Try as I might, I cannot find a converter, and though the IT wiki page claimed Media Player Classic supported it, it does not.

The soundtrack is from Age of Wonders, an ancient game, but with amazing music.

Thanks in advance.

I just play Impulse Trackers with XMPlay. Foobar2000 and Winamp can also do it (though I'm unsure whether you need a plugin for Winamp). Also I have never needed to convert them for anything other than an MP3 player because everything I know (Zdoom, XMPlay, maybe one day RockBox?) supports Impulse Trackers.

If you still need to convert it, the easiest way I know is to use XMPlay's WAV writer (this is in playback devices in Options) and then convert the resulting WAV to whatever format you need. Lemme know if you need any help finding that.

Hey man, I've been looking everywhere on how to make a boffer katana, and I saw that you have made one.
I'm going to find out how to make mine have a curved blade, but could you send me some directions on how to make one like you did?

Mine probably don't modify well to curved since I used fiberglass rods in mine. Here are some quick pointers.
1. cut half an inch deep into material from top to bottom of pool noodle. (if you cut off sections on both sides you'll also have a piece for my basic longsword design as well)
2. cut the pieces down the middle and tape together into a sharp angled triangle.
3. affix to back of fiberglass rod.
4. use PVC pipe insulation for the back of the blade so that a nice round look is achieved.
5. the handle will appear to be off balance if you center a handle on the piece of fiberglass sticking out.
6. for long katanas, use two fiberglass rods. For short ones, use one.

I should work on more specific directions, complete with a link as to where they'll end up hosted (likely TheAlmightyGuru's wiki on boffering)
